Step-by-Step Procedure

  1. Prepare the Connector: Install the cold connector by snapping the rings on both sides and securing the middle slot .
  2. Strip the Fiber: Remove about 3 cm of the fiber coating from each end to expose the bare fiber. Clean the exposed fiber with alcohol to remove debris .
  3. Cut the Fiber: Use a cleaver or cutting knife to cut approximately 1.4 cm of the stripped fiber to ensure a clean, flat end .
  4. Insert the First Fiber: Place one fiber end into the cold connector, ensuring it is seated in the ferrule and aligned properly.
  5. Prepare the Second Fiber: Strip and clean the second fiber end similarly, then cut it to the correct length.
  6. Insert the Second Fiber: Place the second fiber into the opposite side of the connector, ensuring both fibers meet in the middle and are held securely by the snap rings .
  7. Secure and Test: Push the snap rings tightly to lock the fibers in place. Test the connection using an optical power meter or OTDR to verify low insertion loss and proper alignment .
